Measuring Your Child's Feet

Measure both feet as they may vary in size and we advise to fit shoes to the larger foot. We suggest you add no more than 1.5cm for growing room. For a narrower foot only add 0.8cm for growing room.

To measure the length place a piece of paper on a hard flat surface and have your child stand on it.

Tips for Tiny Feet

Our baby's feet are very precious; they have 26 bones that will eventually make up the adult foot. At an early age the bones are mostly cartilage, making them spongy. Here are some tips to keep those little, delicate feet healthy:

  • It is encouraged that baby exercises their feet by kicking and doing other similar actions to help develop their foot muscles.

  • Barefoot is best when baby is crawling and walking indoors as this allows the foot to develop and strengthen.

  • Baby is likely to start walking between 10 to 18 months. A child should not be forced to walk.

  • Children often cannot feel any damage being done by ill-fitting shoes, so while the child is standing feel the shoes for your child’s longest toe and it should not be pressing against the end of the shoe and also feel along the sides of the shoes and there shouldn’t be any pressure.

  • Sleepwear should be loose fitting and light so the feet are not restricted.

  • Synthetic shoes should be avoided because the materials used do not give and this results in pressure that could damage a child's growing foot.

  • Shoes should be tried on with socks or tights as this will help to ensure a proper fit.
